Welcoming a New Cohort of Central Dancers

24 September 2024

Last week, our undergraduate students returned to The Countess of Wessex Studios to begin their autumn term of training. We also welcomed a new cohort of first year students, who are joining us from across the UK and the world. Central is thrilled to be starting this new academic year with joy, positivity and great ambitions.

Our new year group of 43 students took part in their first lessons last Monday. Throughout their initial few weeks of training, they will be participating in a variety of activities across all departments of the school, to help them become familiar with their tutors and fellow students, and to ensure they feel welcome and prepared for the year ahead of them.

Executive Director, Mark Osterfield said: “It is always very satisfying when we welcome our HE students to the Countess of Wessex Studios at the start of a new Academic year and feel the buzz of energy, excitement and enthusiasm running through the building – bringing it to life.”

The 2024 intake is also an important cohort, as they are the first year group to have been offered the opportunity to apply for our assisted application scheme. The Assisted Application Scheme is designed to support talented students in applying to our higher education courses, to ensure that barriers do not prevent them from performing at their best or from accessing Central’s application process. We are pleased to continue with the scheme this year, and applications are now open ahead of our auditions which open 1 October 2024.

Central School of Ballet’s artistic vision for the year ahead is well-defined and pertinent as the arts landscape continues to adapt to challenges. The aim for our students is to graduate as employable and professional individuals, and we are excited to see how our 2024 graduates navigate their careers and create opportunities for themselves and others. Artistic Director, Kate Coyne, discussed how “the new academic term is a brilliant opportunity to refocus our training, maintain our high standards and ensure that we are guiding our students towards successful and rewarding performance careers”.

The year ahead presents many wonderful opportunities to share with others the work that our students are doing in the studio, and for Central to reach and engage with more people than before. We hope that anyone interested in the work of Central or participating in our various programmes stays in touch by signing up to our newsletter, which can be found at the bottom of this page, and by following our social media accounts.
