Central’s Annual Summer Show Week Returns to Britten Theatre this July

10 June 2024

Now halfway through the Ballet Central tour, Central School of Ballet’s final year company will once again be returning to London this July to close the 2024 season. After visiting a range of venues from Oxford to Essex and Surrey to Suffolk, the company looks forward each year to performing at the Britten Theatre in South Kensington. There will be two performances, on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July, which you can buy tickets for here.

Alongside these final Ballet Central performances, the first and second year students also perform in the annual Summer Showcase on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July. The showcase is a fantastic opportunity to see the broad range of skills that Central’s students develop across the year. The evening promises a mix of dance genres, plenty of classical ballet, and two works choreographed by our MA students. Tickets for the Summer Showcase are available to buy here:

This special week also features Central’s graduation ceremony, a presenting of certificates to mark the completion of studies of the third year students. As part of the ceremony, the students perform their graduation solos. They have been working on these solos throughout the year and developed their final dissertations based on the solo chosen.

The Ballet Central performance and graduation is the final step in a Central dancer’s journey. After three years of training, the students complete their undergraduate degree this week, and then graduate officially from the University of Kent in the winter. They will be going on to audition for a range of companies, roles and postgraduate courses.

The Britten performance week is an incredibly rewarding experience for staff and students at Central, demonstrating the love for performance that drives all Central dancers. These performances are also a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to see the students perform in a large theatre.
